Hello Coulee Region,

You can find updates about the Wis16 project here.  This project will repair the concrete pavement from just north of La Crosse St to Gillette St over the course of ten weeks, from July 21 to late September.  When the project is completed, the "thump ta thump" of the old pavement will be gone, and a new asphalt surface will cushion the ride.

The project will be built at night during the hours of 7pm to 6am.  During these hours, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.  Traffic will travel bi-directional on one half of the highway, while the contractor works on the other half including the two way left turn lane.  Repairing the pavement at night allows the two way left turn lane to remain in service during peak travel hours when its use is critical to vehicles safely entering and existing the highway.

A graphic depicting bi-directional traffic can be found on the project overview found below.

The contractor will continue work tonight (Friday), Saturday, and Sunday nights in the westbound highway 16 lanes.  The pavement patching operations will begin tonight, so there will be more construction activity in the area.  Please be aware of construction workers and as always, Travel Safely.

No work will occur this week.  The contractor will begin work with lane closures on Monday, April 28th at 7pm.  Please plan your trips accordingly as traffic will be sluggish the first couple of hours.

Hello Coulee Region,

You can find updates about the Wis16 project here.  This project will repair the concrete pavement from South Kinney Coulee Rd to Landfill Road over the course of six weeks, from late April to mid June.  When the project is completed, the "thump ta thump" of the old pavement will be gone, and a new asphalt surface will cushion the ride.

From South Kinney Coulee Road to east of Highway OS, the project will be built at night during the hours of 7pm to 6am.  During these times, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.  Traffic will travel bi-directional on one half of Highway 16, while the contractor works on the other half.  The interstate 90 off-ramp, adjacent to the closed side of Highway 16, will be closed as well from 7pm to 6am.  Changeable message boards on the interstate will direct traffic to use Exit 4.  At about 6am, Highway 16 and the interchange ramps will reopen to four lanes of traffic.

From east of Highway OS to Landfill Road, the pavement can be repaired during daytime or night time hours.  Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.  Work at the intersection of Landfill Road/Emerald Drive will only be done at night.

A graphic depicting bi-directional traffic can be found below on the project overview.
